Operations Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Operations Coordinator plays a key role in managing the logistics and infrastructure that keep Words Alive programs running efficiently and will require an individual who is passionate about processes, systems, and integrity. This role focuses on maintaining the organization’s headquarters in the East Village of San Diego, coordinating the distribution of tens of thousands of books each year to children and families, while engaging volunteers in building the learning kits (crafts and parent guides bundled with books) that transport and transform young readers across the region.

Program Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of programs in partnership with schools, childcare providers, community centers, and other organizations. This role ensures that programs run smoothly by coordinating with volunteers, participants, and partners, and providing logistical and operational support to program managers. The Program Coordinator serves as the primary liaison for volunteers, helping to foster their engagement and connection to our mission. NOTE: This is a grant-funded, 12-month position to support our early childhood programming. Continuation of employment beyond the grant will be reliant on availability of funding.

Page Turners Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW: Words Alive is seeking an energetic, responsible intern to support and strategically grow our largest volunteer mobilization initiative, Page Turners. Through Page Turners, volunteers review and share insights about diverse, relevant, fresh titles Words Alive is considering for use in our programming. Our Page Turners volunteers develop deeper connections with Words Alive while building the love and joy of reading in themselves, their families, and their communities. More than 1,200 volunteers, from around the world, participated in Page Turners over the past year.

Nonprofit Administration & Governance Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW: Words Alive is seeking a professional, responsible, and detail-oriented intern to support the goals and activities of the Words Alive Board of Directors and its various committees/taskforces. The Words Alive Board consists of 12-18 Board members, plus numerous community members, who lead the strategic, compliance, and policy work of the organization. The intern will acquire hands-on experience supporting the diverse work of the Board.

Learning Design for Social Change (Programs) Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW: Words Alive is seeking an organized, thoughtful intern with strong writing skills and a deep interest in informal curriculum development to help us deliver the Words Alive mission. Our Learning Design Intern leads and supports passionate, experienced volunteers (many are retired teachers) to create high-quality informal curriculum for use in our programming for youth 0-18.

Storytelling Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW: Words Alive is seeking an energetic, responsible intern with strong writing and organizational skills to help us tell the Words Alive story through compelling stories and with the support of passionate volunteers.   At Words Alive, we know that the power of a good story has the ability to change lives. Our Storytelling Intern has an opportunity to build a team of volunteers who can capture and organize mission moments across the organization, and then work to disseminate these mission moments to the Words Alive community.
