Orientation Leader

Words Alive is seeking passionate, energetic, and welcoming volunteers to serve as Orientation Leaders on the Volunteer Engagement Team at Words Alive. The Volunteer Engagement Team supports the organization with onboarding new volunteers, tracking volunteer activity for grant reporting purposes, and implementing new volunteer appreciation strategies. Orientation Leaders are responsible for hosting orientations and welcoming potential volunteers into the organization.

Orientation Leaders are supervised by Words Alive’s Volunteer Coordinator. 

Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and lead Words Alive volunteer orientations via Zoom.

  • Email orientation registrants reminders and follow-up materials.

  • Clearly and concisely explain volunteer roles and organization mission.

  • Answer questions from potential volunteers, communicating with the Volunteer Coordinator as needed.

A great Orientation Leader is:

  • A strong and eloquent speaker.

  • Positive, friendly, and engaging.

  • Has experience with or a desire to learn online platforms and databases such as Zoom, Google Drive, and Squarespace.

  • Comfortable sending email correspondence to potential volunteers.

  • Punctual and reliable.

  • Able to multitask in Zoom to lead the orientation, monitor the chat, and admit people from the waiting room.

  • Committed to Words Alive’s mission to connect children, teens, and families to the power of reading.

Commitment:

  • Position is 100% virtual.

  • Lead at least one orientation per month.

  • Orientation Leaders choose the time and day of their orientations.

  • 2-3 hours per month (includes prep time, email correspondence, and leading the orientation).

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must provide their own computer and have access to the internet.

Onboarding and Training:

  • Attend a 30-minute volunteer orientation and submit a volunteer application.

  • Review and sign volunteer handbook.

  • If under 18, submit a youth waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

  • Complete a 30-minute online training specific to Orientation Leaders.

Openings:

  • Currently recruiting for 1-2 volunteers.
